A brilliant young woman named Boluwatife Shodamola has achieved remarkable success, earning a fully funded PhD scholarship at Hull York Medical School in the United Kingdom.
Her journey is one of consistency, purpose, and intentional growth, showing how building the right experience can open doors to global opportunities.
Boluwatife's Story and How She Did It
Boluwatife began her academic journey at Osun State University, Nigeria, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Public Health in 2018 with first class honors.
From early on, she demonstrated a strong passion for improving community health and making meaningful impact. After her undergraduate studies, she gained hands-on experience by volunteering with health-focused organizations, where she contributed to several impactful projects.
These included malaria sensitization programs, HIV prevention and control initiatives, and capacity-building programs for orphaned and vulnerable children.
During this period, she developed strong skills in project coordination, grant writing, monitoring and evaluation, and stakeholder engagement.

She also worked on designing tools to track project progress and ensure effective delivery, skills that are highly valuable in public health research.
Boluwatife also served as an HIV peer educator and health educator, where she actively engaged communities, delivered health awareness programs, and contributed to data collection and analysis for public health interventions.
Driven by her passion to grow further, she proceeded to Birmingham City University in the United Kingdom, where she earned a Master’s degree in Public Health in 2025.
This advanced training helped her deepen her expertise and strengthen her research capabilities.
All these experiences,her academic excellence, practical impact, and commitment to public health, eventually positioned her for a major breakthrough.
She was awarded a fully funded PhD scholarship at Hull York Medical School, with her research sponsored by Yorkshire Cancer Research.
Her doctoral research focuses on improving the uptake of smoking cessation interventions in disadvantaged communities in Yorkshire—an important area aimed at reducing cancer-related deaths and improving public health outcomes.
