Young Lady wins UK Commonwealth scholarship and went on to bag masters degree at Oxford University, here is how she did it

A brilliant young lady named Omotayo Mary Dada has achieved remarkable academic success after earning a master’s degree in Public Policy from University of Oxford, in the United Kingdom.

Her achievement was made possible through the prestigious Commonwealth Scholarship Commission scholarship, which fully funded her studies in the United Kingdom.

Mary’s journey reflects excellence, determination, and a commitment to making meaningful contributions to governance and public policy.

 

Mary's Story and How She Did It

Mary began her academic journey at University of Ilorin in 2015, where she enrolled for a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree. Throughout her years at the university, she remained dedicated to her studies and legal training, graduating with honours in 2021.

Following her undergraduate studies, she proceeded to Nigerian Law School, where she continued her outstanding academic performance. In 2022, she graduated with a First Class and received multiple awards, including recognition as the overall best graduating student.

After successfully completing her legal training, Mary was called to the Bar as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

Her exceptional academic record and leadership abilities helped establish her as a promising legal practitioner and policy analyst committed to advancing good governance, institutional effectiveness, and international development.

Determined to broaden her impact, she pursued opportunities for postgraduate studies abroad. Her strong academic profile and professional accomplishments earned her admission to the Master of Public Policy programme at the Blavatnik School of Government.

In 2024, she began the programme under a fully funded Commonwealth Scholarship. Over the course of the programme, Mary immersed herself in policy research, leadership development, and global governance studies.

In 2025, she successfully graduated with her master’s degree from Oxford University. Reflecting on her achievement on LinkedIn, Mary expressed gratitude for the people and institutions that supported her journey.

“Grateful to God Almighty for His grace that carried me through. I am grateful to the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission for sponsoring my studies at Oxford. To my supervisors, teachers, friends and colleagues, thank you for making this experience unforgettable.”

She also shared that the experience was transformative, as she came with questions to Oxford and she is leaving there more enlightened in her field.
