AFRICA | A brilliant Nigerian lady named Bukola Oloyede has set an inspiring record of academic excellence, earning double First-Class honors in Law and winning three prestigious international scholarships.
This achievement led her to graduate from the University of Oxford with a Master of Laws (LLM).
Bukola's Story and How She Did It
Bukola’s journey is a remarkable example of resilience, brilliance, and faith. It began in 2019, when she graduated from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) with a First-Class degree in Law (LLB), a result that placed her among the best in her graduating class.
Determined to pursue legal excellence further, she proceeded to the Nigerian Law School the following year.
There, she once again distinguished herself, graduating in 2022 with another First-Class Honours and being called to the Nigerian Bar as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

Her outstanding record earned her international opportunites. Bukola was first awarded the Michael Taiwo Scholarship, a program that supports exceptional young Africans aspiring to study abroad.
But that milestone was only the beginning of an even greater academic journey.
Soon after, she received admission offers from three top law school the University of Oxford, the University of Cambridge, and New York University (NYU) School of Law, each accompanied by a fully funded scholarship.
From the University of Oxford, Bukola was awarded the Mastercard Africa Oxford Initiative (AfOx) Scholarship, New York University (NYU) gave her Dean’s Scholarship and the University of Cambridge awarded her Wolfson College Scholarship for Women Entrepreneurs from Emerging Economies.
Bukola ultimately chose the Mastercard AfOx Scholarship to pursue the world-renowned Bachelor of Civil Law (BCL) at the University of Oxford, a degree considered equivalent to a Master of Laws (LLM).
In 2025, she successfully graduated from Oxford, not only completing one of the most challenging law degrees in the world but also winning the 3 Verulam Buildings Prize for Best Performance in Principles of Financial Regulation—a prestigious award recognizing outstanding academic excellence.
Reflecting on her achievement, Bukola shared an emotional post on LinkedIn:
“A few years ago, if someone had told me I would study at the University of Oxford on a fully funded scholarship, complete the Bachelor of Civil Law, and win the 3 Verulam Buildings Prize for Best Performance in Principles of Financial Regulation, I would have cried in disbelief. But that is my reality.”
She described her journey as one of grace, gratitude, and growth, dedicating her success to everyone who supported her along the way.
To God for writing beauty into every page, her family and friends, “for holding me up from oceans away, the Mastercard Africa Oxford Initiative and the Michael Taiwo Scholarship team, for making this dream possible.”
She also thanked her professors, lecturers, and mentors, for turning my aspirations into achievements. Ending with an uplifting message, Bukola encouraged others to never give up on their dreams.
“This is an invitation to believe even when it feels impossible, to keep showing up even when it gets hard, and to remember—you are never walking alone. Always choose your dreams over your fears,” Bukola said.
