A brilliant Nigerian man named Olusegun Adebao, has achieved remarkable academic success, earning a fully funded master’s degree in Computational Mathematics at Western Kentucky University in the United States.
His journey is an example of how academic excellence, consistency, and strategic preparation can open doors to fully funded international opportunities. For Olusegun, the foundation of this success started years earlier in Nigeria.
Olusegun's Story and How She Did It
He began his academic journey at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, where he studied Mathematics. From the beginning, he remained committed to academic excellence, and in 2015, he graduated with a first-class honours degree.
That achievement became a major turning point in his career. After completing his undergraduate studies, he focused on building both academic and professional experience.
For about two years, he worked as a mathematics tutor and grader across different institutions, strengthening his teaching ability and deepening his understanding of the field.
Rather than rushing immediately into studying abroad, he intentionally built a profile that would make him more competitive for international opportunities.

His next major step came in 2021 when he enrolled at the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences in Cameroon to pursue a master’s degree in Mathematics.
There, he once again distinguished himself academically, graduating with honours in 2022. After completing his studies in Cameroon, Olusegun pushed forward with his dream of studying in the United States.
His persistence paid off when he secured a graduate assistantship position at Western Kentucky University in 2024.
The opportunity was fully funded, meaning his tuition was completely covered by the university. In addition, the graduate assistantship allowed him to work as a lecturer while pursuing his studies.
He enrolled in a master’s program in Computational Mathematics and successfully completed the degree in 2026.
Balancing academic work with teaching responsibilities was demanding, but Olusegun remained focused throughout the journey.
Reflecting on his success, he admitted that the road was not easy, but every stage of the process helped shape him into a stronger scholar and professional.
“This journey challenged me academically, strengthened my problem-solving skills, and taught me the value of persistence and discipline,” he shared on LinkedIn.
He also expressed gratitude to everyone who supported him along the way, including his family, professors, friends, and colleagues.
“Looking forward to applying these skills to meaningful work and new opportunities ahead,” he added.
