It was a celebration downtown right, so a whole bunch of people event. Shots rang out, but when everybody dispersed, I’m the only one left, I was in a sedated coma for almost two weeks before I actually woke up. I coded twice, on the scene and again during surgery, ” he recalled.

Boone was a high football, baseball, and lacrosse player while in high school. He said he joined the military after graduating high school, an experience that yielded him a four-year scholarship to the Raleigh institution.
After his accident, Boone said he felt he was going to be able to heal quickly and continue with his activities but reverse was the case. He had to use a ventilator to enable him to breathe as his recovery process was not successful.
Boone said he became depressed during his recovery process, but while in the rehabilitation center, another victim of gun violence, who suffered similar injuries gave him hope.
“He rolled into the room, and I’m sitting just looking at the wall and just crying. That moment gave me more perspective on me being in rehab, and it kind of opened my eyes a little bit,” he said.
He said seeing someone being in the same predicament as him gave him the reassurance of life. Bonne said he refocused and decided to return to school to finish his degree.
Boone enrolled at St Augustine and was able to take his classes, assignments, emails, and research papers through a phone attached to his bed. Four years after his unfortunate incident, Bonne is graduating with a Criminal Justice degree from St. Augustine University, United States.
Bonne said now that he has achieved his graduation goal, he will be focusing on recovering and publishing his own poetry book.
