A young Nigerian doctor named Emannuel Oluseyi Animashaun has won 200,000 dollars worth of scholarships from different top universities in the United States. He plans to earn his master’s degree in public health from one of the universities.
Emmanuel Animashaun bagged his bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) from the College of Health Sciences at University of Ilorin, Kwara state Nigeria. He finished his residency as a house officer at Wesley Guild, Oau Teaching Hospital in 2022.
Emmanuel shared his unique achievement on his LinkedIn, stating that it was a dream come true as he dedicated all his time and energy while applying for the Master’s graduate program.
”As the 2023-2024 admissions cycle ends, my dreams look real more than ever. When I started applying to graduate programs last year, I did not know precisely what would come for me. However, I stayed true to the process, dedicating time, energy, and resources to seeing it possible,” he wrote.

He won scholarship offers worth over 200,000 dollars from different prestigious universities in the United States such as John Hopkins University, Yale University, Havard University, Emory University, and University of South Florida for his Master’s degree in Public health.
”I am excited to share that I have been accepted into some of the world’s most prestigious graduate programs in public health, with various scholarship offers totaling over 200,000 USD namely Johns Hopkins University – MPH/MBA Dual Degree Program (plus a very generous MPH/MBA merit scholarship award), Harvard University – MPH Health Management, Yale University – MPH Health Policy and Management, University of South Florida – MPH Environmental Health,” he said.
Emmanuel said he developed a passion for public health when he was in his fourth year in medical school due to certain occurrences. He then decided to pursue a career that focused on driving solutions to the current healthcare problems in Low Middle-Income Countries like Nigeria by concentrating on prevention strategies against the socio-economic determinants of diseases, management of healthcare businesses, and leveraging technology and innovation.

This decision, therefore, gave him the dream to study in any of the world’s renowned public health schools with all his activities as a student and medical doctor tailored towards preparing him for the journey.
Since then, I have nurtured the dream of studying in any of the world’s most renowned public health schools, and all of my activities in medical school and as a doctor were tailored towards preparing me as a super-competitive candidate for graduate school admission.
While a student, Emannuel was an active member of the UNILORIN Student Union. He was the first ever medical student to be elected the student union government (SUG) president. He was also an active member of the University Medical Students’ Association.
Emmanuel thanked his family and colleagues for their guidance and support while applying for the graduate program. He also expressed his gratitude to his teachers and notable figures who recommended him to the universities.
”I am grateful to all my friends, colleagues, seniors, and mentors who contributed to the application process with their unending guidance and advice. Most importantly, I am grateful to those who supported my applications with their graceful recommendations, including Prof. Sulyman Age Abdulkareem (immediate past VC, University of Ilorin), my mentor Dr Michael Olugbile MD, MPH of the World Bank Group, and my teachers, Prof. Olugbenga Mokuolu, Prof. Muhammed A.N Adeboye, Dr. OIN Buhari and Dr. Adedayo Ayodele ADERIBIGBE,” he said.
Emmanuel chose John Hopkins University where he was offered a dual degree MPH/MBA merit scholarship award. He said though it was very hard for him to make a decision, he chose one and took it as a motivation for him to continue pursuing his dreams and also not relent in his desire to contribute significantly to solving the significant healthcare challenges in Nigeria, Africa, and the globe at large.
