Young Nigerian Lady who graduated with 2nd class lower degree beats 1st class graduates to win huge Masters scholarship in UK

An exceptional Nigerian Lady named Oluwafunmilayo Oni has achieved an exceptional feat after winning the United Kingdom Government’s Chevening Scholarship with her second-class lower degree, beating several applicants with first-class university degrees.

Oluwafunmilayo did not only win the UK Government Chevening Scholarship Award, but she also won the Irish Government Scholarship at the same time both with her second-class lower Bachelor’s degree certificate.

[] Applications for the 2023 version of the UK’s Chevening Scholarship opened on August 2, 2022, and is expected to close on the 2nd of November 2022 – Read more details HERE. However, the application for the 2023 Government of Ireland Scholarship closed on the 31st of July, 2022 – to stay in touch with scholarship opportunities, we recommend that you join our WhatsApp group through THIS LINK.

Oluwafunmilayo took to her LinkedIn handle to celebrate her achievement noting that she once doubted her ability to win any scholarship due to her Bachelor’s degree grade. “For years, I doubted my ability to bag any scholarship for my Masters degree because many scholarship granting organizations often stated clearly that they would rather a minimum of 2:1 (second-class upper),” she wrote on LinkedIn.

She recalled that she once applied for a scholarship opportunity and was told that her leadership experience was superb and excellent but she did not meet the academic criteria because of her Bachelor’s degree grade.

However, she did not relent on her applications and strive to make an impact in the world. After several attempts, she was awarded two scholarships on the same day.

“This year, I was awarded the Chevening Scholarship and the Irish Aid scholarship on the same day. See God!” she wrote.

She explained that she will have to let one go as she cannot accept both scholarships for her Master’s degree abroad. “Now I have to choose 1. Both are fully funded with diverse opportunities and it pains me that I have to let one of them go,” she said.

She encouraged university graduates with a second-class lower degree not to be discouraged by their results but should stand firm to prove their intelligence to the world. “o, if you have a 2:2 like me, the journey might be slightly tougher but the world is your oyster! Apply!,” she said.
