Young Nigerian Lady who wrote WAEC three times before passing finally graduates from university, celebrates achievement

A young Nigerian lady named Becca Ammy who wrote the West African Examination Council (WAEC) examination thrice has finally graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Health Education from Lagos State University.

Becca Ammy earned her bachelor’s degree in Health Education from the Lagos State University, Lagos in Nigeria with a 3.60-second class upper division.

Becca mentioned that she faced many challenges in her educational journey. She failed her senior secondary certificate exam (SSCE) twice before she was able to pass it on her third attempt.

She also stated that she had a delay in getting admission despite having a high score in her Unified Tertiary Matriculation Exam (UTME). All of this almost made her fall into depression together with having suicidal thoughts.

‘’I did Waec and it did waec me, which I did three times, mind you I wasn’t failing jamb,my first jamb I had 218, at some point I questioned God a whole lot to the extent with pressure from home and all suicidal thoughts did set in which I almost slit my wrist but God sent someone to stop me,’’ Becca said.

Eventually, Becca gained admission into Yaba College of Technology(YABATECH) for a part-time program in science laboratory technology but she passed no examinations and tests in the college.

‘’Fast forward I gained admission into Yaba College of Technology in 2012 for a part-time program in Science Laboratory Technology. I am sure you will be like finally, but that wasn’t the case. The more I read, the more I failed and it was like my efforts was actually nothing. So I finished Yabatech or do I say 3years wasted with nothing to show for it and I was back home,’’ she explained.

Becca said that it was during her low times she heard about the Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations (JUPEB) but she hesitated because of the high fees being that she was adopted by an uncle after her father died.

‘’During this low state of mine I heard about JUPEB, I made enquiries of the money involved and it was much. I was like who wants to spend this much on a child that’s not theirs cause I was raised by my uncle and his wife (Dad is late),’’ she said.

However, she still reached out to her adoptive parents for support and luckily for her, they agreed on supporting her choice. Becca filled in for nursing in JUPEB at the Lagos State University but it was denied and replaced with Health Education.

”It happened again that I didn’t get the course I wanted which is Nursing, I got Health Education. And glory to God after all I went through in the journey of my life, I am proud to tell everyone that cares of hear that I am a graduate,” she recalled.

Left with no choice, Becca took the course and ended up developing a career interest in Health education. Now she has bagged her bachelor’s degree from the Lagos State University with a 3.60 cumulative grade point( Second class Upper Division) and she’s ecstatic about what the future holds.

’BSc.Ed Health Education, Second Class Upper Division with CGPA 3.60. fresh graduate in town. Unto the next stage in life with speed and ease,’’ she said.

Becca advised students who ever come across a delay in their studies to never give up but see it as a motivation to push more.

‘’I tell you delay isn’t a denial, though it may tarry but surely and definitely it will come to pass. DO NOT GIVE UP,’’ Becca advised.
