Young Nigerian man beats colleagues to emerge winner of science competition in USA

A young Nigerian man named Tony Okeke has emerged as the winner of the Genetic Toxicology Technical Committee, a professional development award in the United States. 

Tony Okeke is presently a Biomedical Engineering student at Drexel University, Philadelphia, in the United States. He was recognized by the Genetic Toxicology Technical Committee, a  United States-based nonprofit organization, Health and Environmental Sciences Institute(HESI)

Tony was given the award in recognition of his achievements in the field of biomedical engineering and genetic toxicology at his university. While a student, He was involved in various research projects related to genetic toxicology, which is the study of how chemicals or physical agents can damage DNA and cause mutations, cancer, or other diseases.

The organization, Health and Environmental Sciences Institute (HESI) has a mission to collaboratively identify and help resolve global health and environmental challenges through the engagement of scientists from academia, government, industry, clinical practice, research institutes, and NGOs.

The organization said Tony a winner of the award will receive funds and be afforded the opportunity to attend relevant scientific conferences, workshops, and training courses to build core competencies and transferable skills.

They added that he will also be able to share their research and be benefited from another related opportunity that contributes to professional development. The award also provides Tony the opportunity to join the organization’s community to learn about emerging projects and science at HESI.

The award is also an open invitation for Tony to attend the 2024 Genetic Toxicology Technical Committee Annual Meeting to learn about current GTTC projects and network with and gain insight from, experts in the genetic toxicology field.
