13-year-old JSS2 boy beats SS3 students after scoring 282/400 in JAMB

A 13-year-old Nigerian boy, Ahmed Muhammed, currently in Junior Secondary School 2 has beaten Senior Secondary School students in the Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination.

The JAMB examination is an O’Level examination designed for Senior Secondary School 3 (SS3) students or High School finalists to determine if they are qualified for university admission in Nigeria.

That examination usually graded over 400 is always a tough challenge for many Nigerian students. Although the pass mark is mostly set at 50% (200/400), many High School finalists in Nigeria find it hard to attain the average score.

In 2024, out of the 1,842,464 candidates who sat for the JAMB examination, 1,402,490 candidates scored below the average score of 200.

Ahmed Muhammed, a young boy from Zamfara in Nigeria in JSS2 wrote the 2024 JAMB examination for fun, and  after the results were released, he beats more that 1.4 million SS3 students who took the examination.

Ahmed scored 282/400, far above the average score despite being 5 years behind the original candidates of the examination.
