AMERICA | An exceptional 17-year-old named Taheem Johnson has achieved an outstanding success, earning a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Information Technology Management from Western Governors University (WGU).
With this achievement, Johnson not only set a record as one of the institution’s youngest-ever graduates but also made history across Chicago in the United States.
Johnson Story and How He Did It
From a young age, Taheem displayed exceptional intelligence and curiosity. Johnson began his academic journey at the same university, earning a bachelor’s degree in Information Technology in 2023 at the age of 15.
The following year, Johnson reenrolled at Western Governors University for his master’s degree. There, he pursued an MBA in Information Technology Management, completing the rigorous program at just 17, a very rare feat.
He credits much of his drive to his grandparents from Fiji, whose stories of perseverance inspired him to value education and hard work. With what he describes as a photographic memory, learning came naturally to him, helping him excel at a pace far beyond his peers.
“Education has always been important in my family. My grandparents’ journey taught me that knowledge is the bridge between where you are and where you dream to be,” he once shared.
His accomplishment highlights not just his intellect, but his discipline and leadership, qualities he continues to channel into his growing professional career.
Johnson’s journey extends beyond the classroom. He is currently the CEO of Taheem Johnson, Inc., and serves as the Senior Vice President of Technology and Infrastructure Operations at Tekkgear, a role he assumed in December 2023.
In this position, he helps manage a multi-million-dollar global application portfolio with over 2,000 users across international markets—an extraordinary responsibility for someone his age.
Outside of his corporate pursuits, Taheem is deeply committed to giving back. He founded The Empowered Young Men (EYM), a nonprofit organization that uses hip-hop, sports, and entertainment as creative tools to teach young Black men life skills, leadership, and self-confidence.
He also volunteers with several organizations, including the Detroit Area Pre-College Engineering Program (DAPCEP), Big Brothers Big Sisters, and Habitat for Humanity, mentoring and supporting underserved youth.
Despite his early achievements, Taheem’s ambitions continue to grow. He plans to pursue both a doctorate and law school, intending to expand his impact across business, technology, and social advocacy.
