This 23-year-old man earned masters degree at US university, becomes a certified scientist

An exceptional 23-year-old man, Jordon King, has achieved an impressive academic milestone after earning his Master’s degree in Environmental Biology from Florida International University.

This achievement following two years of intensive research in the Everglades, a vast subtropical wetland ecosystem in South Florida.

Jordon's Story and How She Did It

Jordon’s academic brilliance has been evident from a young age—he graduated from high school as the second-best student in his class. He began his higher education journey at the State University of New York Maritime College, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Marine Environmental Science.

At just 20 years old, he completed a research internship focused on fish studies, an experience that fueled his passion for environmental science and led him to pursue graduate studies immediately.

Reflecting on his master’s journey, Jordon described it as challenging, rewarding, and transformative.

“I completed two long years of research in the Everglades while in grad school, and it was truly a journey. My research focused on flocculent organic matter—like soil, but looser, and I experienced and learned so much along the way. I even published a paper about my work,” he said.

His fieldwork required intense dedication. He often woke up before dawn, spent hours boating to research sites, and worked up to eight hours a day collecting samples in the wetlands.

Along the way, he encountered several fascinating reptiles and gained a deeper appreciation for the ecosystem.

Jordon’s research explored the metabolism, biogeochemistry, and microbiology of flocculent organic matter, uncovering insights into its importance to subtropical wetlands.

After two years of data collection, analysis, and rigorous field study, he emerged not just with a degree but as a certified scientist equipped with valuable knowledge and real-world experience.

Looking back, he describes those two years as some of the best of his life—an opportunity to contribute meaningful research while growing academically and personally.
