A brilliant Nigerian woman named Ese Ekhator has celebrated earning a PhD at
North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, in the United States.
Ese obtained her doctoral degree in Applied Science and Technology (Bioscience Concentration) at North Carolina A&T University, an achievement she described on LinkedIn as a remarkable milestone in her academic journey.
”May 10th, 2024, marked a significant milestone in my academic journey as I graduated with a Ph.D. in Bioscience,” she said.
Looking back on the academic journey, Ese said she is reminded of the enormous leap of faith she took to leave her family home in Nigeria to pursue her dreams in the United States of America.

Ese said she left behind the familiar comforts of home, family, and friends and embarked on a journey fueled by hope and determination.
She said the decision to study in a foreign land was overwhelming, and the path ahead was uncertain. Ese mentioned that she faced numerous challenges, from adapting to a new culture and climate to overcoming financial hurdles and academic pressures.
She said there were moments of doubt and hardship, but she was driven by an unwavering belief in the power of education and the desire to make a difference considering her background as she is oldest one with a PhD.
Ese said her path to earning the doctorate degree was not easy as she experienced countless late nights in the lab, setbacks in research, and moments of self-doubt which tested her decision . but yet, with each challenge, she grew stronger and more resilient.
She mentioned that of the most significant milestones of the academic journey was receiving the prestigious 2023 Young Investigator Award at the Society for Redox Biology and Medicine International Conference in Uruguay.
She said the recognition, coupled with other awards, publications, and research presentations, is a testament to the dedication and hard work that defined her Ph.D. journey.
Ese said she is filled with gratitude and pride as she graduates adding that the achievement is not just hers but a testament to the faith, perseverance, and support that carried her through.
She said the accomplishment symbolizes the countless sacrifices made, the sleepless nights endured, and the relentless pursuit of a dream against all odds. Ese said though she may be the first to earn a Ph.D. in her family, she is definite others will follow path.
She said through the challenge, she was blessed with incredible mentors who guided her, friends who supported her , and family who, despite the distance, constantly encouraged her.
Ese said she hopes that her journey inspires her younger ones to chase their dreams and never give up. She said she is excited and anticipating a future filled with endless possibilities and continued growth and success.
