Brilliant young lady wins Gates Scholarship, set to bag masters degree at University of Cambridge

A brilliant young lady named Sydnae Taylor has won the prestigious Gate Scholarship to study for her master’s degree at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom.

Sydnae is a Jamaican who is a senior at Princeton University has been awarded the prestigious Gate Scholarship to study for her master’s degree at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom.

The Gate Scholarship gives outstanding students from outside the United Kingdom the opportunity to pursue postgraduate study at the University of Cambridge. Sydnae is among the 77 students from the United States and international winners of the scholarship. 

Sydnae plans to plans to pursue her Master of Philosophy in health, medicine, and society at the University of Cambridge.

For her Thesis, Sydnae concentrated on medical anthropology and is also pursuing a certificate in global health and policy. She is conducting a cross-cultural study about obstetrics in developing countries.

As part of her research, Sydnae shadowed gynecologists, pediatricians, and general practitioners in primary-care clinics and specialized hospitals in La Paz and Tarija, Bolivia, for eight weeks, as part of the International Internship Program (IIP), and was funded by both IIP and Princeton’s Global Health Scholars Program. 

While at Sydnae, she served as a student representative in the Global Health Program and is a former research fellow for the Art Hx: Visual and Medical Legacies of British Colonialism Project, working with a five-member digital humanities team.

She was also a member of student advisory boards with the Program for Community-Engaged Scholarship (ProCES) and the Department of Music. Sydnae served as an intern (remote) with Bolivia’s Child Family Health International through the International Internship Program.

Sydnae mentioned that she plans to obtain her doctorate degree in a public health-related field and pursue a career in global health in developing countries.

“I am especially galvanized to dedicate my efforts towards collaborating with leaders in the Ministry of Health in Jamaica to support areas of maternal and child health as well as healthcare system building,”
