A determined Nigerian lady, Praise Adebayo faced rejection while trying to get into university. However, she fought on and eventually graduated with a first-class degree in Accounting from Ladoke Akintola University in Oyo, Nigeria.
Praise earned her bachelor’s degree in Accounting with a first-class honors grade of 4.56 at Ladoke Akintola University (LAUTECH), Nigeria. Narrating her story on Linkedin, she stated that she felt bad when she faced rejection from OAU (Obafemi Awolowo University) not knowing that LAUTECH had greater plans for her.
She said she resumed university without a clear goal or passion in mind. However, she quickly learned it was more challenging than anticipated. Praise said the pressure, newfound independence, and the need to make her own decisions were overwhelming.
”I remember the feeling of being rejected by Obafemi Awolowo University, but little did I know that Ladoke Akintola University of Technology had greater plans for me. I entered university without a clear vision or desire for what I wanted to achieve,” she said.

Praise stated that she had a wake-up call after performing poorly in her mid-semester test. The COVID-19 pandemic led to a long break, during which she reflected and made a decision to work hard.
Upon resumption, she finished that semester with a grade point average of 4.16, and the next session, she improved and finished with a cumulative grade point average of 4.36 which was a second-class grade.
Praise mentioned that during her third year in school, she understood the significance of setting goals and aspirations. She attributes her achievement of graduating with a first-class degree to God’s help, supportive friends, discipline, and hard work.
Praise also highlighted that she learned some lessons during the academic journey which she would like other students to imitate.
She said that one should never underestimate the power of God’s guidance and support, and surround themselves with good and like-minded friends who challenge and motivate them. She also said it is important for one to set their priorities right and manage time effectively.
”Discipline is key to consistency and commitment. Know yourself and your strengths and weaknesses. Don’t be afraid to ask for help when necessary.” she said.
