AMERICA | A young man named Samuel Leon Maja Porter has achieved remarkable success, earning a Doctor of Law (JD) degree from Florida A&M University (FAMU) College of Law in the United States.
Following his graduation, Samuel wrote the Washington, D.C. Bar Examination, where he recorded an outstanding score high enough to qualify him to practise law in all Uniform Bar Examination (UBE) jurisdictions across the United States.
Samuel’s journey is a powerful testament to perseverance, discipline, and Black excellence in the legal profession.
Samuel's Story and How She Did It
He began his academic journey at Howard University, where he studied pre-law and graduated in 2019 with a perfect 4.00 GPA, earning summa cum laude honours. At Howard, he was also a Presidential Honors Graduate and made history as the first university graduate in his family.
Before law school, Samuel served in the United States Navy, an experience he credits with shaping his discipline, resilience, and work ethic—qualities that later carried him through the rigours of legal education.
In May 2025, he earned his Juris Doctor degree from Florida A&M University College of Law. By November 2025, he had successfully passed the Washington, D.C. Bar Exam, with a score high enough to allow him practise law nationwide under the UBE system.
Sharing his achievement on Instagram, Porter wrote: “We don’t just break barriers, we shatter them. They didn’t hand me a seat at the table, so I built my own. And now? We all got a seat”.
”This isn’t just about a degree. It’s about faith. It’s about family. It’s about legacy,” he said.
He attributed his success to his mother, grandmother, and everyone who contributed to his success, ”To my mama, my grandma, and everyone who poured into me, this moment is ours. And to God, the author and finisher of this story, we did it,” he said.
Beyond academics, Samuel has gained professional experience working with the U.S. Department of Justice (Antitrust Division) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
