AFRICA | A Nigerian man who wrote JAMB exam 5 times before gaining acceptance to FUNAAB finally graduate with distinctions.
A brilliant Nigerian man named Toheeb Bisiriyu has graduated with distinctions despite having to write the university entrance examination five (5) times before being admitted.
Toheeb Bisiriyu earned a second-class upper Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Administration from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), South-West Nigeria.
Narrating his story in an interview with Legit Nigeria, Toheeb said it took him 10 years to earn his degree certification. He narrated that he had previously earned a National Diploma (ND) before gaining admission into the university.
According to him, he began his undergraduate studies at Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Abeokuta Nigeria earning a National Diploma in Science Laboratory Technology in 2015.

Toheeb said he wrote the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination popularly known as JAMB but he failed. Not giving up, he kept writing the exam and was falling at every attempt until he wrote it five times.
”My first ever UTME was in 2012 when I applied to study Science Laboratory Technology at Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Ojere Abeokuta. I gained admission in 2013 and completed my ND program in 2015,” Toheeb said.
“I had always wanted a university degree so year on year, I kept writing UTME until it was 5. I remember my friends jokingly teased me that my statue should be erected at JAMB’s office because of my frequent patronage of the body,” he added.
Toheeb recalled telling his parent about a decision to go to the university and they did not approve it because of their financial status. He said because of that, he had to work for three years at home to raise his tuition fees making his quest for a university education cost him 10 years.
“After my ND from the polytechnic, I mentioned at home that I would like to go to the university as I wanted a university degree but the idea didn’t sit well with my parents because we simply couldn’t afford it,” Toheeb said.
”My preferred university was UNILAG and my preferred course was Medical Laboratory Science (MLS). This was the reason I wrote the UTME 5 times, even though I aced it all, getting an admission into UNILAG was like the passage of a camel through the eye of a needle,” he added.
In 2015, Toheeb got admission to study his dream course at Kwara State University but he had to forfeit the admission because he could not afford the school fees. He said decided to rather apply to a federal University as it would be affordable for him.
Toheeb said he decided to switch this choice of course to agriculture because other than medicine, he also has a passion for agriculture. Fortunately, he finally gained admission into the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta.
He said what kept him going despite the financial challenges and all other challenges was his strong desire to have a Bachelor’s degree and most importantly, the realization that being the first child of the family and the only one to have attended a tertiary institution.
Toheeb said he needed to do it for myself and his siblings to be a source of inspiration. He stated that for the 6 years he spent at the University, he lived a very intentional and exceptional life as a student.
Toheeb said he lived an Academic, Social, Political, and Religious life as a student and earned achievement in every aspect. He mentioned that he plans to further his studies by earning a master’s degree later.
