AFRICA | A brilliant Nigerian lady named Boluwatife Anjolaoluwa Adigun has graduated as the Best Graduating Student in Software Engineering at Babcock University, earning an outstanding 4.83 cumulative grade point (CGPA) out of 5.00.
Her story is one of redemption, discipline, and growth, proof that failure can sometimes be the detour that leads to destiny.
Boluwatife's Story and How She Did It
Boluwatife began her academic journey in 2022 with dreams of becoming a medical doctor. But one mistake changed the course of her plans and forced her to take an unexpected gap year, a period she described as one of her lowest moments.
“I took a gap year I didn’t plan for, filled with silence, sadness, and a heavy sense of failure. As someone who built her identity on academic success, that year forced a painful question: Who are you without the one thing you thought defined you?” she shared on LinkedIn.
During that period of uncertainty, she stumbled into tech, not with confidence, but with curiosity.

For the newfound passion, Boluwatife started small, watching tutorials, debugging broken code, and reading documentation she barely understood. The process was messy, confusing, and frustrating for her. But over time, she began to make sense of it.
“At first, I was more confused than capable. But slowly, it started to click. I found my footing, and eventually, I found myself again,” she shared.
That spark of discovery became her anchor. What started as confusion for Boluwatife grew into competence and evolved into excellence. Four years later, Boluwatife walked across the graduation stage as a First-Class graduate and the overall best student in her department.
She also clinched several awards, including winner of the 2025 Babcock Innovation Challenge, 1st Runner-Up, BUCC AI for Social Good Competition, and Software Engineering Prize (awarded by Dr. Akin Alade and Folajimi Daodu, PhD).
Her academic journey was not without challenges. Between countless sleepless nights, group projects, and solo breakdowns, she pushed through doubt with faith and focus.
“This isn’t just a career switch story, it’s a story of grace that carried me, discipline that shaped me, and growth that redefined me,” she said.
From starting her 100 level with a perfect 5.0 GPA to finishing with the same excellence, Boluwatife’s consistency became her signature. Outside academics, she was a student ambassador, debate winner, team lead, and mentor.
She interned at two companies as a Software Engineer and Backend Developer, where she built web applications, designed and consumed RESTful APIs, automated Excel reports, wrote SQL queries, and created Tableau dashboards for data storytelling
Her curiosity grew into technical mastery — blending software engineering with creativity and social impact. Through every season, Boluwatife said she held on to a Bible verse that became her life’s compass:
“It is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy.” — Romans 9:16
She described her success as the product of grace, grit, and God’s mercy, crediting her mentors, teammates, family, and friends for their support. Now, she looks forward to solving real-world problems in backend Architecture, AI & Data systems, and community Impact
