AMERICA | An exceptional 23-year-old man named Tyson Mickie has achieved an extraordinary academic and professional milestone after earning two bachelor’s degrees, maintaining a 3.88 GPA, and obtaining his private pilot license.
He achieved all of these degrees within a few years apart from each other. Tyson’s journey is a powerful example of passion, discipline, and consistency.
Despite the demanding nature of aviation training, he remained focused on both his education and his lifelong dream of becoming a pilot.
Tyson's Story and How He Did It
Tyson began his aviation journey early, enrolling at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, where he completed his foundational aviation training and graduated in 2019.
In 2020, he advanced his studies at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU), earning a certificate in Aeronautical Engineering, Aerospace, Aeronautical, and Astronautical Engineering.
Still chasing knowledge, he moved to Southwestern Illinois College in 2021 and completed an Associate of Arts and Sciences in 2022. His academic growth continued at Bluefield State University, where he spent five years earning two bachelor’s degrees:
Tyson earned an Associate of Science (A.S.) in Civil Engineering and a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Engineering Management.
He graduated summa cum laude in 2025, proving his dedication to excellence across multiple disciplines. Tyson balanced all of these commitments while actively working toward his private pilot and flight instructor licenses.
Beyond academics, Tyson also excelled in athletics. He participated in baseball, track and field, and became a National Champion—showing that he was committed to excellence in all areas of his life.
His childhood dream of flying began at age five, and today he lives that dream. Tyson now works with Cirrus Aircraft, one of the leading private jet companies in the United States where he delivers aircraft to owners and also teaches them how to fly as a Certified Flight Instructor.
