A brilliant young lady named Oludimu Deborah has achieved uncommon academic excellence, graduating with a first-class Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Ibadan.
Her journey stands out because, unlike most students who pass through conventional secondary schools, Deborah was homeschooled for most of her formative academic years, yet she still emerged as one of the top-performing students in national examinations.
Deborah's Story and How She Did It
Deborah’s path to higher education was far from typical. From junior secondary school through senior secondary level, she was educated at home rather than in a traditional school environment.
Despite this unconventional route, she demonstrated exceptional academic discipline early on.
At just 14 years old, she sat for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination conducted by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and passed all nine subjects with outstanding grades.
She also performed remarkably well in Nigeria’s university entrance examination organized by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), scoring an impressive 290 out of 400.

Her outstanding performance secured her admission into the University of Ibadan in 2020 to study Law.
During her five-year law program, Deborah maintained strong academic performance throughout. By her third year, she had already recorded a CGPA of 3.83 out of 4.0, a level she sustained until graduation, eventually earning first-class honors.
Interestingly, Deborah revealed that her homeschooling background influenced how she learned at university.
She explained that she often relied on self-study rather than classroom lectures, attending classes mainly for attendance requirements because independent learning suited her better.
Sharing her success on Twitter, Deborah celebrated becoming the first person in her family to graduate with such an outstanding academic record.
“First in my bloodline to have an insane academic history and still graduate with a FIRST CLASS in LAW. It still feels surreal to say that out loud, but deeply grateful for the growth, the discipline, and everyone who supported me through the journey,” she declared.
With graduation behind her, Deborah plans to further develop her expertise before attending law school. Her interests include corporate and Commercial Law, intellectual Property Law, and AI Ethics and Policy.
She is currently seeking internships, research opportunities, and fellowships in these areas as she prepares for the next phase of her legal career.
