A dedicated Nigerian educator, Serah Yusuf, has been crowned the 2025 Maltina Teacher of the Year, earning national recognition and a ₦10 million cash prize for her exceptional commitment to transforming the lives of young learners.
Her victory places her among the distinguished educators celebrated under the prestigious initiative.
Serah's Story and How She Did It
Serah, a teacher at Wisdom International School of Excellence, Abuja, where she has consistently distinguished herself through innovative teaching, community involvement, and student-centered learning.
Her journey to the competition began long before her nomination, built on self-development, mentorship, diligence, resilience, and a passion for empowering children, especially those from underserved communities.
The 2025 Maltina Teacher of the Year competition, organized by the Nigerian Breweries–Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund, attracted entries from outstanding teachers across Nigeria.
Supported by the Federal Ministry of Education, NUT, ANCOPPS, and the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), the initiative seeks to spotlight teachers whose work reflects national and global educational standards.

At the grand finale of the 11th edition, Serah was announced as the overall winner, earning ₦10 million cash prize, a winner’s trophy, a capacity-building training opportunity abroad, and ₦30 million worth of infrastructure projects for her school.
These recognitions highlight not just her teaching excellence but the scholarly and community-driven nature of her work.
Speaking after her win, Serah revealed that she initially did not expect to emerge as the overall winner, despite encouragement from colleagues.
She described the moment as a powerful intersection of “preparation meeting opportunity,” guided by resilience, mentorship, and grace.
Serah credited her success to years of combining continuous learning with hands-on community engagement. Her teaching philosophy has always revolved around awakening potential, nurturing creativity, and ensuring that children, regardless of their backgrounds, feel seen and capable.
Serah emphasized that the ₦10 million prize will enable her to deepen her outreach initiatives, which include empowering underprivileged children in underserved communities and supporting parents who cannot afford school fees and uniforms.
She will also provide sanitary pads and promote menstrual hygiene among young girls, lead school and community-based projects aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and, at the same time, give a stronger voice to children living in slum areas.
Her plans reflect a clear scholarly commitment to education as a tool for social transformation, showing that teaching extends beyond the classroom. With this achievement, Serah joins a prestigious list of educators honored since the competition’s launch in 2015.
