AMERICA | 22-year-old Twin brothers, Christian and Christopher Mannery, have achieved remarkable success as they graduated together from Jackson State University (JSU) in the United States.
Christian earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science, while Christopher graduated with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. But beyond academics, their journey at JSU was deeply personal.
The Mannery twins enrolled at JSU in 2021, not just for education, but to honour the memory of their late older brother, Devon Mannery, who tragically died in a car accident in 2016.
At the time of his passing, Devon was a junior at JSU studying Physical Education and was a proud member of the Sonic Boom of the South, where he played the bass drum.

“Devon was definitely the reason I came to Jackson State and joined the band. Growing up around the band, I remember the first time I went to a Jackson State game—we saw them perform ‘Get Ready,’ and everyone was so in sync with the pom-poms,” Christian said.
”That moment stuck with me. It really inspired me and became the driving force behind wanting to come here,” he added.
To honour their brother’s legacy, both Christian and Christopher joined the school band, Sonic Boom of the South, in their first year. Christian played the cymbals for three years, while Christopher spent four years on the bass drum, just like Devon.
As much as they marched in memory of their brother, the twins also discovered the importance of creating their paths.
“As Christian stepped out of band, I kind of found my comfort in being the only twin still around,” said Christopher. “It gave me space to be me, not just part of a twin pair. I was able to express my own ideas and contributions.”
Outside the band, the Mannery twins were active members of different extracurriculars, including Men of Excellence, Collegiate 100, and the Delta Delta Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
These experiences helped shape them into confident individuals with strong community values. The Mannery twins expressed their gratitude to everyone who contributed to their success.
“We really thank everybody. Everyone at Jackson State has shaped us into people we didn’t know we could become. The lessons we’ve learned and the people we’ve met will stay with us for life,” he said.
Looking ahead, Christian plans to attend law school and hopes to one day become a judge, while Christopher aims for a master’s degree in Criminal Justice and plans to serve as a military officer.
