22-year-old Nicholas Watson has built a story that challenges stereotypes and redefines possibility.
From being diagnosed with autism and ADHD at a young age, and told he might never read or understand math, Nicholas went on to earn over $1.5 million in scholarship offers from 45 universities across the United States.
He eventually graduated cum laude from Harding University with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, finishing with an impressive 3.70 GPA (out of 4.00).
Nicholas' Story and How He Did It
As a child, Nicholas was diagnosed with both Autism Spectrum Disorder and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Doctors warned his family that he might struggle significantly with reading and math comprehension.
But his parents refused to accept limits on his future. From an early age, Nicholas received specialized therapies during the day and after school.
His evenings were filled with reinforcement of school lessons, while his parents sacrificed sleep, time, and finances to support him. Reflecting on his upbringing, Nicholas shared:
“I really had a great childhood because I never really knew anything was ‘wrong’ with me. My parents created a world for me that was very positive… The world that was created for me to thrive in gave me the confidence I have today.”
Nicholas did not just improve; he excelled. He graduated from high school with a remarkable 4.80 GPA and was accepted into 45 colleges and universities, earning over $1.5 million in scholarship offers.
He ultimately chose Harding University, where he continued to shine academically and athletically.
At Harding, he played as a guard on the men’s basketball team and graduated cum laude in 2024. Before college, he was also a standout four-sport athlete in Basketball, Soccer, track, and cross country
Sports became a healthy outlet for channeling his hyperactivity and building discipline.
Upon completing his degree, Nicholas shared a deeply emotional reflection, dedicating his success to his mother and to everyone who ever doubted him.
“I am more than a sport. I am more than my diagnoses. I am Nicholas Watson, and I dedicate my degree to every label and every stereotype that was placed on my life. You were meant to hold me down, but instead you pushed me into my destiny,” he wrote on Instagram.
He encouraged others who feel different to see their disability as an ability.
“If you’re out there learning different and being different, listen up — your difference will one day make the difference,” he said.
After earning his bachelor’s degree, Nicholas advanced his education at the University of Arkansas, where he is currently pursuing a Master of Business Administration (MBA).
While he has not committed to a single career path, he emphasizes that his adaptability, growth mindset, and diverse skill set position him to thrive in multiple environments.
