23-year-old Lady graduates from US university with first-class while nursing her new-born child, celebrates achievement

An exceptional 24-year-old Lady named Ava Sim has achieved remarkable success after bagging her bachelor’s degree with first-class honors from Robert Gordon University, United Kingdon when she single-handedly nursed her newly born child.

Ava balanced caring for her son with a part-time job and university studies and still graduated Robert Gordon University, Scotland in the United Kingdom with a first-class degree in Business Management.

She told Guardian that she commuted from her home in Shetland for tutorials and exams at the university campus in Aberdeen which is around 260 miles away with her baby. Ava said she would have to step outside class to breastfeed him.

“I’m really pleased. I was determined to get that first-class degree. I’ve always enjoyed all aspects of university and when I fell pregnant with Leo I decided that it wasn’t going to stop me. I made the first trip with Leo when he was five weeks old,” she said.

Ava said she first studied in Aberdeen, before moving back to Shetland to continue her degree through distance learning. She wrote a 13,000-word dissertation on workforce sickness absence rates while working for the local authority.

She mentioned that the experience was very challenging but rewarding at the same time. Despite the challenges, Ava was still active in sports. She competed for the university’s netball first team.

“In my final year, I have been balancing my studies with working part-time, caring for my toddler, managing the household, maintaining extra-curricular activities, and being pregnant with my second child,” she said.


Ava said she would be taking a maternity leave in the expectancy of her second child adding that she would also like to take on a new challenge.

She said she would like to pursue a career in either business development/consultancy or human resource management. Ava added that she also wishes to study for a master’s in Human Resouce Management or leadership and management,

“Up until now I have mainly worked for the local authority, so I’m looking for a new challenge. I’m also considering doing a master’s degree in either HRM or leadership and management. I am finding it difficult to decide at the moment as I have enjoyed all of the modules I have studied throughout the course,” Ava said.
