AFRICA | 19-year-old Nigerian man bags bachelors degree with 4.87 first class, celebrates achievements.
A 19-year-old Nigerian man, Osaze Ogedegbe has graduated from Nile University, Abuja Nigeria with a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, achieving an impressive cumulative grade point average of 4.87 out of 5.00.
This remarkable feat earned him an award as the second-best graduating student in his department. Sharing his achievement on LinkedIn, Osaze described the milestone as not just a personal victory but a testament to God’s faithfulness, hard work, and perseverance.
Reflecting on his journey, Osaze revealed that he began university in 2020 as a shy and introverted student. He avoided the spotlight, opting out of extracurricular activities, clubs, and public speaking engagements. Even routine class presentations were daunting due to his stage fright.

Everything changed in March 2023 when he made two life-changing decisions: to delve into the field of data and to push himself beyond his comfort zone. Trusting God for strength, Osaze confronted his fears head-on.
Since then, he has achieved incredible personal growth. He has stood confidently on stages to address audiences, built a personal brand on LinkedIn, and pursued opportunities that shaped his identity and aspirations.
Looking back, Osaze wishes he had taken these steps earlier. “If there’s one piece of advice I could give to anyone about to start university or already in school,” he said, “it’s this: University is the perfect time to lock in and build your personal brand”.
”Work hard in your academics, but don’t underestimate the value of extracurricular activities and putting yourself out there. You’ll never know how far you can go until you take that first step,” Osaze added.
Beyond his academic excellence, Osaze demonstrated leadership and initiative. He served as a Student Ambassador and IT Director of the Nile Games Club launched an interview series called The Kernel Corner and facilitated a Python workshop at a tech conference hosted by his university.
Additionally, he presented two research papers at international conferences, participated in the International Career Coaching Program (ICCP), and was both a Student Fellow and Campus Director in the Millennium Fellowship ’24.
Despite the challenges he faced, Osaze expressed deep gratitude to God, his parents—whom he described as his pillars of support—his sister, lecturers, coursemates, and friends who made the past four years memorable.
As he embarks on the next chapter of his life, Osaze holds on to the words of Ecclesiastes 3:11: “He has made everything beautiful in its time.”
