After suffering 2 rejections, young Nigerian man finally wins UK Chevening scholarship to study for his masters

A young Nigerian man named Dada Blessing who suffered several rejections in an attempt to further his education in the United Kingdom has finally won the prestigious Chevening scholarship to study for his master’s in the country.

Dada Blessing bagged his bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry at the Federal University of Technology Akure, Nigeria. He graduated from the university with a remarkable second-class upper grade.

Blessing shared his achievement of winning the prestigious Chevening scholarship on his LinkedIn noting that his acceptance is a testament to all the efforts he has put into winning the scholarship.

He said he embarked on the Chevening Awards in 2020 after he bagged his bachelor’s degree but was rejected on his first attempt. Blessing explained that on his first attempt, he had just been introduced to writing, and his application suffered due to his limited writing skills.

Not giving up, Blessing said the year after he dedicated himself to improving his community work and committed more to his learning and self-development. He decided to apply again but despite receiving an interview application, he was rejected for the second time.

Blessing said his perseverance driven by his deep passion for work helped him to keep going. He mentioned that he made significant contributions through his organization and initiated a program called “RealTalkWithScholars, where he teaches people how to prepare for global opportunities.

In 2022, Blessing said he diligently revised all of his essays, improved his track record, and submitted their application. He added that after a period of waiting, he was chosen for an interview which he prepared thoroughly stating that he conducted more than 10 mock interviews.

Blessing said he waited hesitantly and fortunately he was awarded the Chevening Scholarship. He mentioned that out of over 14,700 applicants in Nigeria, he was among the top 44 scholars chosen which he said is a testament to the effort he put in.
