A brilliant South African man, Farai Mlambo has become a scholar who is capable of solving all mathematical problems after bagging 4 degrees in Mathematics and Statistics.
Farai started his higher education studies in 2009 and reached the highest academic qualification in Mathematics and Statistics within 6 years. He obtained his first Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) degree in Economics and Statistics and his second bachelor’s degree in Mathematical statistics at Nelson Mandela University, South Africa.
Upon earning the two bachelors, Farai proceeded to earn a Master’s degree in Statistics and subsequently earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Mathematical Statistics, all at Nelson Mandela University, South Africa.
Reaching this academic milestone came with so many challenges. Farai lost both of his parents at a tender age which caused a negative impact on him according to Women Power Africa.

Farai was influenced and became significantly involved in substance abuse and high school mischief, leading to his expulsion from two schools due to misconduct. However, his path was redirected all thanks to the advice and encouragement he received from his brother.
He returned to school where he completed his Advanced Level (A-Levels), becoming one of the best students at his high school in 2007.
In 2008, he received the Zimbabwean presidential award, a bursary to study at a selected university in South Africa through which he enrolled for his BCom at Nelson Mandela University.
After this, he earned his honors bachelor’s degree in Mathematical Statistics without a bursary as the presidential award was only for undergraduate studies. Farai had to juggle his lectures with running tutorial sessions to sponsor himself through school.
While studying for his master’s, he received two contract teaching positions from the Department of Economics and the Department of Statistics at Nelson Mandela University.
He also received the Department of Science and Innovation (DSI), National Research Foundation (NRF)’s Innovation Masters Scholarship Award which greatly helped him to complete his Masters with a Cum Laude grade.
He enrolled for his doctorate through the DSI-NRF Innovation Scholarship Award. Farai earned his PhD in 2019 and received the Best Paper Award at the European Simulation and Modelling Conference in Spain.
During his PhD, Farai also received a full-time job offer from the School of Statistics and Actuarial Science at Wits University where he taught several undergraduate and postgraduate courses from June 2017 until June 2024.
Farai is currently a Senior Lecturer in Digital (Data Analytics) Business at Wits Business School (WBS), South Africa, and is studying for his second PhD in Computer Science at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa.
