AFRICA | An exceptional Lady emerges Nile unversity best-graduating student with 4.99 first-class in Petroleum Engineering
An exceptional Nigerian lady named Vahyalajah Eunice Kwaji emerged as the second best-graduating student at Nile University, Abuja, Nigeria, after earning a first-class bachelor’s degree in Petroleum and Gas Engineering with an outstanding 4.99 cumulative grade point average (CGPA).
Eunice was also named the overall best female graduating student of the university
Celebrating her remarkable achievement on LinkedIn, Eunice described the milestone as a significant feat, highlighting the challenges she faced along her academic journey.

She admitted there were moments of exhaustion and self-doubt, but her determination, faith, and the support network she built over the years kept her going. “Every challenge taught me the value of prayer, perseverance, and the importance of seeking support from those around me,” she shared.
Networking played a pivotal role in her success, enabling her to meet inspiring individuals who continually encouraged her to strive for excellence. Beyond academics, Eunice embraced numerous leadership roles and volunteer opportunities that enriched her academic and personal growth.
These included serving as President, of the SPE Nile University Chapter (2023/2024), Programs Chairperson, of the SPE Nile University Chapter (2022/2023), Energy4Me Ambassador, and Student Ambassador (since 2022).
Her contributions earned her several recognitions, including the International Petroleum Technology Conference (IPTC), Bangkok, Thailand, the Girl in STEM Leadership Award (August 2024), and the APWEN Outstanding Academic Performance Award (November 2024)
Despite the rigorous demands of her program, Eunice found time to mentor fellow students, particularly those struggling academically. She described this as one of the most rewarding parts of her journey.
Eunice credited her success to God Almighty, whose grace sustained her, as well as her family, Nile University lecturers, and mentors like the Dean of Engineering, Petrus Nzerem, and her supervisor.
She also expressed gratitude to ProvidusBank for honoring her during her convocation.
Reflecting on her time at Nile University, Eunice remarked on the privilege of meeting people from diverse backgrounds, building lasting friendships, and gaining invaluable knowledge.
Volunteering with the SPE Abuja Section 199 significantly enhanced her networking skills, connecting her with industry professionals and peers.
