AFRICA | A brilliant young Nigerian man named Oluwatomisin Olaotan has achieved remarkable academic excellence as he emerged the Best Graduating Student of the Nigerian Law School for the 2025 session.
He completed the rigorous program with First-Class Honours, earning multiple national awards for his exceptional performance.
Oluwatomisin's Story and How He Did It
Oluwatomisin’s journey to this historic success began in 2018, when he enrolled at Lagos State University (LASU) to study Law.
From his early days as an undergraduate, he demonstrated a deep passion for the legal profession and an unwavering commitment to academic excellence. After six years of consistent effort, he graduated from LASU in 2024 with a Second Class Upper Division.
That same year, he proceeded to the Nigerian Law School, a compulsory program for law graduates seeking to be called to the Nigerian Bar.
Determined to exceed his previous achievements, Oluwatomisin pushed himself even harder, dedicating long hours to study and mastering the complex subjects of Nigerian law.
His perseverance paid off.. He graduated with First-Class Honours and was called to the Nigerian Bar as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. Out of thousands of candidates, he was named the Second Best Graduating Student in the entire 2025 session.
His academic brilliance earned him several distinguished prizes, including the Justice Mohammed Bello G.C.O.N Prize for 2nd Overall Best Graduating Student, Nigerian Law School and Chief Adegboyega Awomolo C.F.R, SAN Prize for 3rd Best Student in Corporate Law Practice.
Oluwatomisin also won the Director-General’s Prize for First-Class Honours and Best Graduating Student, Port Harcourt Campus.
Reflecting on his journey via LinkedIn, Oluwatomisin expressed heartfelt gratitude to God, his parents, mentors, and supportive friends. He revealed that his goal from the start was not just to graduate with distinction but to be among the best in his class.
“Most of my friends in law school nicknamed me ‘BGS’, meaning Best Graduating Student — and that pushed me to work even harder,” he wrote.
One of his proudest moments, he shared, was emerging as the 3rd Best Student in Corporate Law Practice, a subject he once found challenging.
“That recognition meant so much to me because Corporate Law was the toughest course for me. It reminded me that hard work truly pays off,” he added.
Oluwatomisin’s achievement reflects not only his brilliance but also his resilience and discipline, qualities that define the best of Nigeria’s young legal minds.
As he steps into the next phase of his career, he remains open to legal counsel and associate roles, eager to contribute to the legal profession with the same passion and excellence that brought him this far.
