AFRICA | A young Nigerian Lady bags masters degree at UK university, graduates top 1% in her class.
A young Nigerian lady named Komomoh Itam, has earned a Master’s degree in Clinical Biochemistry and graduated in the top 1% of her class at the University of Westminster, London in the United Kingdom.
Sharing her achievements on LinkedIn, Itam revealed that when the time came for her master’s degree, she had a clear vision of what she wanted to study.
Having worked as a multidisciplinary Biomedical Scientist for over four years, she was determined to pursue a program that aligned with her passion. However, choosing the right school and location was a challenge due to various factors.

She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Calabar, Nigeria, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science. For her graduate studies, she searched for universities with Biomedical Science modules that were related to her interest.
After thorough research and scrutiny, Itam chose the University of Westminster. The institution allowed her to specialize in Clinical Biochemistry while also offering modules in other areas such as Haematology, Blood Transfusion, and Molecular Biology.
However, she initially hesitated about studying in London due to its high cost of living. When she sought advice from colleagues who had pursued master’s degrees in the UK, many discouraged her from choosing London, while others suggested she switch to a different discipline.
Despite the concerns and discouragement, she decided to trust her instincts—just as she had always done. “I applied to the University of Westminster scared. I arrived at the University of Westminster scared. But now, I am leaving bold and proud, ready to serve the world,” she said.
Itam expressed gratitude to the University of Westminster for providing a supportive academic environment and for giving her the opportunity to develop leadership skills while serving as a course representative throughout her MSc program.
Although her academic journey was demanding, she described it as a challenging yet rewarding year. Moving forward, Itam hopes to continue her career in Biomedical Sciences in the United Kingdom, having recently been certified and licensed by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
