A brilliant Nigerian man named Okpako Ogheneochuko has emerged as the best-graduating student in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Benin, Nigeria.
With an impressive first-class degree and a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 4.80 out of 5.00, Okpako’s outstanding performance underscores his dedication and resilience.
Sharing his achievement on LinkedIn, Okpako described his journey as both challenging and rewarding. Coming from a humble background, he had to stay home for two years after secondary school to save money before pursuing his university education.

During his time at UNIBEN, Okpako held several notable leadership positions, including being the President, Nigerian Universities Engineering Students Association, UNIBEN Chapter and President, Nigerian Institute of Mechanical Engineers, UNIBEN chapter.
Okpako also served as the Student President, Nigeria Institute of Professional Engineers and Scientists, the South-South Coordinator, Nigerian Institute of Mechanical Engineers, National Student Forum and the Secretary-General, Council of Governors, University of Benin.
Okpako expressed deep gratitude to his family, friends, lecturers, colleagues, and mentors for their unwavering support throughout his academic journey. He also acknowledged the scholarships that significantly eased his financial burden.
The scholarship includes the FSB Federal Government Scholarship, Seplat Petroleum Development Company Plc Undergraduate Scholarship, Midwestern Oil & Gas Company Limited Undergraduate Scholarships, and John A. Scholarship, among others.
As Okpako prepares to complete his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in March 2025, he remains optimistic about the opportunities his degree will bring. He is eager to continue learning, advancing professionally, and contributing meaningfully to his field.
