A brilliant Nigerian man named Rasheed Adeoti graduated from the  University of Ilorin, Southwest Nigeria with a first-class degree in Mathematics.

Rasheed graduated from the University of Ilorin with a 4.79 over a 5.00 cumulative grade point average. He shared the achievement on his LinkedIn noting that he accomplished it amidst different struggles.

Narrating his story, Rasheed mentioned that in high school, he was an average student who often struggled academically. Still, there was one subject that made him happy and motivated him, Mathematics.

Rasheed said despite his challenges in other subjects, Mathematics remained his strength. Upon graduation from high school, he faced setbacks, failing English in his first West African Senior Certificate Examination attempt.

English being a crucial subject for university admission, Rasheed could not apply to any university. With this situation, he met new people, changed his environment, and was inspired by others succeeding.

Determined to improve, Rasheed said he re-sat for the exams and he passed the English Language subject. He said although he initially dreamed of studying Computer Science, he changed his course to mathematics, a decision that changed his life.

Rasheed stated that from day one at the University of Ilorin, he was determined to excel not only in his academics but also in other activities on campus.

Highlighting his achievement, Rasheed said he co-founded The Emerging Minds Foundation, which offered tech courses to students for free.  He was also honored with the MTN Foundation Scholarship and had the opportunity to mentor fellow students.

He said his journey from a struggling student to a first-class graduate taught him that setbacks are not the end, but the beginning of something greater.

Advising struggling students who are facing challenges, Rasheed said it’s never too late to change their story. He said they should reflect, work hard, stay dedicated, and never give up on their dreams.
