Michelle expressed her gratitude to the Thru Project for their support all through her time in the university and for giving her a chance to further her education as she never thought of achieving success because of the circumstances surrounding her growing up.

She mentioned that she never envisioned herself graduating high school talkless of graduating from the university but she is glad to have been supported by the Thru project which is a dream come true for her.

”Thank you to everyone at the THRU Project for not only supporting and motivating me each semester but for also providing me with the stability to excel academically,” she said.

”The younger version of myself never thought that I would graduate high school, let alone graduate with my Bachelor’s degree, multiple awards, and a 3.5 GPA, So thank you Christopher Lopez and the amazing mentors and volunteers at the THRU Project for believing in me,” she added.

Michelle advised foster children like herself to always source for support and be ready to make good use of the support and opportunity in a way that will benefit them.

“I would say, one, you have resources, and two, utilize them, whether or not you have biological family that is there to support you, there are people on your campus that are there to support you,” she advised.

She also encouraged them to be confident in chasing their career goals and have a positive mindset toward it. “I think that as long as you want to do it for yourself you can make it happen,” she said. “Lots of kids think they have to do it on their own, and that is not the case,” she said.

Michelle is currently working at Texas A&M University as a Social Media Manager and a graduate assistant. She is also studying for her master’s degree in Information Technology with Cybersecurity at the University of Texas, San Antonio in the United States.
