A young Nigerian graduate, Grae Fadugba, has turned personal disappointment into an inspiring success story, graduating with a first-class Law degree after overcoming major setbacks in her study-abroad journey.
Grae’s story shows that rejection is not the end of the road, and that resilience and determination can lead to even greater success.
Grace's story and How She Did It
About seven years ago, she secured a fully funded scholarship to study abroad after excelling in her SAT and TOEFL examinations. Like many students preparing to travel, she proceeded to process her study visa.
Unfortunately, her visa application was denied. Determined not to give up, she reapplied, only to face another rejection.
The repeated denial left her emotionally drained and deeply discouraged. However, with encouragement from family and friends, she gradually found the strength to move forward and rethink her path.

In 2020, she enrolled to study Law at University of Ibadan. What initially seemed like a detour soon became a life-changing opportunity. Grae remained focused on her academics and personal development throughout her years at the university.
By 2025, she graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree with first-class honours, transforming what once felt like a painful setback into a remarkable success story.
Sharing her journey on LinkedIn, Grae described studying at UI as the path that helped her overcome her earlier disappointment. She noted that what once felt like a detour eventually became one of the best decisions of her life.
Reflecting on her journey, she wrote that although her visa rejection left her depressed at the time, she was determined to make the most of the opportunity she had in Nigeria.
Today, she proudly says she made excellent use of her time at UI, achieving success beyond just academic grades.
