AMERICA | A young woman who gave birth at 16-year-old fights hard to earn Pharmacy degree with 4.00GPA, becomes the first doctor in her family.
A determined young woman named Dacorsha Sutton has defied the odds to achieve remarkable success, earning a Doctor of Pharmacy degree (PharmD) from Larkin University in Florida, United States.
Her achievement is even more significant as it makes her the first doctor in her family. Dacorsha began her higher education journey at the University of Toledo, Ohio, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree.
Reflecting on her journey, she shared on Instagram that she became a mother at just 16 years old, giving birth during her senior year of high school.

Facing immense challenges, Dacorsha recounted the discrimination she endured at her Catholic high school. She was removed from leadership programs and extracurricular activities due to her pregnancy, a painful experience that left her feeling alienated.
Her struggles continued in college, where she initially earned a 1.2 GPA in her first semester. Despite losing her full-ride scholarship, facing judgment from advisors and professors, and retaking several failed classes, Dacorsha persevered.
She eventually graduated with an impressive 4.71 GPA. Sharing her story with Essence, she explained her motivation: “I want to show other teen mothers that it’s never too late, and you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you. Our mistakes do not define us; how we handle those mistakes does.”
Celebrating her latest achievement on Instagram, Dacorsha expressed gratitude for the support she received throughout her journey. “I want to thank you all for giving me my flowers while I am still alive. I feel the love and overflow of support I have throughout this entire journey,” she wrote.
Dacorsha hopes her story will inspire others, serving as a reminder that obstacles can be overcome. “Everything was once impossible until someone made it happen,” she said.
