The Coal City University Essay Contest will award a cash prize of N500,000 or a full scholarship to study any desired course at the university to the winner of the competition.
The contest also aims to encourage young minds’ initiative and creative thinking abilities in the direction of sustainable development.

This annual essay contest is held to raise awareness of current global issues among the young population. It also aims to encourage young minds’ initiative and creative thinking abilities in the direction of sustainable development. Furthermore, the essay contest aims to teach society from the perspectives of young people and to recognise that it is our collective responsibility to address these issues.

Theme: Climate Change
The climate impacts the health and well-being of people, including their mental balance, psychological comfort, and mood. Climate change threatens the essential ingredients of health such as clean air, safe drinking water, nutritious food supply and safe shelter. It also has the potential to undermine decades of progress in global health (WHO). Thus, saving the climate is an urgent task in which everyone has a role to play.
