She said her journey to becoming the first female with a PhD in Mathematics from the University of Ghana is a story of triumph over adversity, of hope in the face of despair, and of the unbreakable human spirit.

Gloria said she was born into a modest family and faced numerous challenges from an early age. She added that her parents, Mr. Antwi and Mama Maggie, instilled in her a love for learning despite the harsh realities of poverty.

”When my mom pursued her education, I was left with relatives and had to hawk goods on the streets of Teshie at just six years old. But in those difficult moments, I discovered a spark within me – a spark that would ignite a fire of passion and purpose,” she said.

Gloria said the early experiences and challenges sparked within her a passion for education and a resolve to overcome adversity. Despite the obstacles, she pursued her education with determination.

She recalled her elective Mathematics teacher predicted that she would one day become a Mathematics lecturer. Although she initially dismissed the idea, Gloria said the prophecy planted a seed that would eventually grow into her academic success.

Reflecting on her journey, Gloria said she learned some lessons along the way during the academic journey. She credits her faith as the foundation of her achievements and the importance of resilience, noting that one’s environment does not define them but rather prepares them for what lies ahead.

Gloria also said with determination and hard work, nothing is impossible, that family and love can be both a source of strength and a challenge to overcome and that grace and mercy can carry one through even the darkest of times.

She said with her achievement, she stands as a beacon of hope for anyone who feels trapped, marginalized, or limited. Gloria said she is living proof that one can rise above circumstances and that one can achieve greatness despite the odds.

”My story is not just about me; it’s about the countless individuals who have supported me along the way, my family, teachers, mentors, and friends,” she said.

Gloria said as she is celebrating the milestone, she challenges others to embrace their struggles as opportunities for growth, believe in themselves even when faced with doubt, and never give up on their dreams.
