Brilliant African lady bags first-class degree in Journalism, wins scholarship to study masters at University of Oxford

A brilliant African lady named Semira Mohammed IBN Moro has bagged a Journalism degree with first-class honors at the Ghana Institute of Journalism, Ghana.

She was awarded a scholarship to continue for her postgraduate studies at St. Anthony, University of Oxford in the United Kingdom.

Semira who is from Bolgatanga in Ghana bagged her bachelor’s degree in Journalism with first-class honors at the Ghana Institute of Journalism, Ghana. She was the institutions’s top graduating student.

She was awarded the St Antony’s DAC Scholarship to study at University of Oxford. Semira also made history as the first-ever DAC Scholarship recipient to St Antony’s at Oxford University.

The St Antony’s DAC Scholarship, established by the Governing Board of Oxford University aims to help undergraduate students in nations that receive development assistance reach their academic potential, regardless of their upbringing or financial situation.

Semira told Face2Face that she would be studying for her master’s degree in African Studies at Oxford University as it would help her gain a deeper understanding of the various aspects that are unique to the African continent.

She also believes that the degree would offer a comprehensive, practical solution to gender inequality and other significant cultural problems in Africa. Semira mentioned that it was her passion that made her study journalism,


Semira stated that she believes the media is a strong tool for change and as a development enthusiast, journalism will help her achieve her goal. She added that studying for her master’s with a scholarship is a very big accomplishment for her.

Encouraging other women who might be motivated by her story, Semira told them to follow their dreams, adding that nothing is impossible, and big things can happen from little things.

Semira said after she obtains her master’s degree, she wants to continue working as a journalist for the people of Ghana while also pursuing a doctorate in African studies.
