Brilliant Nigerian man bags distinctions throughout Medical school, wins 6 awards as best graduating student

A brilliant Nigerian man named Opafunso Iyanuoluwa who aced all of his Medical School Examinations with distinction has bagged six awards as the best graduating student at Obafemi Awolowo University, Nigeria.

Iyanuoluwa graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine, and Bachelor of Surgery Degree (M.B.Ch.B Honours) at Obafemi Awolowo University with a distinctions grade. He shared that he is excited to have concluded his undergraduate education with excellent results.

”I graduated from Africa’s Most Beautiful Campus,the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) and I was awarded Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery Degree (M.B.Ch.B with Honours),” he wrote on Linkedin.

Iyanuoluwa was awarded the overall best graduating Medical Student having bagged Distinctions in every level of medical school. “I’m not a genius. I am a product of God’s grace, diligence and hard work,” he said.

Iyanuoluwa won six notable awards for his outstanding performance. He was awarded the Best Graduating Medical Student of the Faculty, the Nigerian Medical Association Prize, the Professor Adewale Akinsola Prize for the Best Student in Medicine, Dr Olurotimi Badero Foundation Prize for the Best Overall Student.

While a student, Iyanuoluwa represented the University in competitions and emerged tops, engaged in tutorials for junior colleagues, and emerged as the Chairman of the Final Year Medical and Dental Class of his set.

He stated that serving as the chairman was a huge and daunting task which meant he had to work twice as hard as other members of his class and due to his meritorious service to his colleagues, Iyanuoluwa was awarded the FYB service award.


Talking about how he was able to achieve the feat, Iyanuoluwa said he was inquisitive. He said he had 2-3 senior students who kept him abreast of what the next level involves. He also added that he took 6 hours of daily study but it reduced in his fourth year due to the high demands of clinical.

He mentioned that he hopes to take up new challenges that would spur him to greater heights adding that he is a strong advocate of the World Health Organization theme 2019.

The theme is Universal Health Coverage – Everyone, Everywhere vis-a-vis provision of wholesome health care to everyone especially the impoverished and the poor in our society thereby helping to improve the poor health indices of our country.
