AMERICA | A 63-year-old African-American man named Brian Key from Reading, Pennsylvania, has proven that it’s never too late to achieve your dreams.
Over forty years after dropping out of college, he has finally earned his bachelor’s degree in Integrative Studies and a Certificate in Cyber Defense from Reading Area Community College (RACC)—graduating Summa Cum Laude with a perfect 4.0 grade point average.
Brian first enrolled in college at West Chester University in 1979 at the age of 18. A few years later, he moved to North Carolina with plans to attend North Carolina A&T University, but life took a different turn, and he never completed his studies.
“I decided to go back to college while in my 60s because after my retirement, I wanted to keep my brain active and also start a second career,” Brian said

”In addition, I have always been inspired by my daughter who has two degrees, a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and a Master’s degree in Kinesiology. I chose Cybersecurity because I wanted to do something to enhance my mind, plus I’ve always wanted to be a hacker,” he added.
While enrolled as a student, he also made history as one of the oldest African American students to be inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society.
In another story, a 37-year-old man named Ron Lewis, Jr., who dropped out of school due to poor grades, achieves success by obtaining three degrees despite feeling like a failure.
Ron, who grew up in Jacksonville, Florida, was once a two-time high school freshman with a 1.3 grade point average. Fortunately, he was never placed in Special Education and had to repeat the ninth grade, according to Black News.
He said the lowest point was at the age of 22 when, during two semesters at Florida Community College (now Florida State College at Jacksonville), he earned straight F’s — eight in all. Read more about Ron Lewis HERE
