A remarkable young scholar, Tunde-Oguntade Ebunoluwa, has graduated with a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from the University of Ibadan, earning a First-Class honour and securing 6 distinctions out of 7 core professional courses.
Her achievement is particularly significant as she is among the pioneers of her faculty, setting a high academic standard for those who will follow.
Ebunoluwa's Story and How She Did It
Ebunoluwa’s journey at UI was not without challenges. She began university in 2019 and initially earned a 2.2 (Second Class Lower).
By her second year (200 Level), she improved to a 2.1. However, when the COVID-19 pandemic forced a shift to online learning, she found herself scoring in the 50s again.
At one point, she admitted she had concluded that a First-Class degree might not be possible. But she refused to give up.
From her 300 Level onward, everything changed. Through focus, discipline, faith, and renewed determination, she recorded a perfect 4.0 GPA in a session and semester, ultimately graduating with First-Class honours.
Out of seven major professional courses, Ebunoluwa earned distinctions in six, including Pharmaceutical Microbiology and Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmacognosy and Herbal Medicine, and Pharmacology and Toxicology
Additionally, Ebuoluwa also earned distinction in Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Technology, Social and Administrative Pharmacy
Beyond academics, Ebunoluwa was deeply involved in service and fellowship throughout her time at UI.
From the 300 Level through the 600 Level, she served in multiple capacities, including teaching BBC in the 300 and 400 Level, serving as Bible Study Secretary in NFCPS during the 400 and 500 Level, and on the Choice Committee in the 600 Level
Her journey reflects a balance of academic excellence, leadership, and spiritual commitment. Reflecting on her transformation, she shared: “The God who restores time did it! Who would have thought?”
Advising other students who might be in her kind of situation, Ebunoluwa encouraged them to keep pushing and above all, trust God.
