AFRICA | A brilliant young girl named Marry Khasa has achieved an extraordinary milestone after earning full-ride scholarships and admission offers from 20 top universities in the United States, including five Ivy League schools.
Even more inspiring, Marry, who will be the first in her family to attend college, plans to complete both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in just four years.
Marry's Story and How She Did It
Marry graduated from University High School Academy with an exceptional 4.31 grade point average, demonstrating academic brilliance and unwavering dedication.
Her outstanding academic record and leadership achievements earned her several prestigious offers, including the Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship and admission into some of the world’s most competitive universities.
Out of her 20 admissions, Marry chose to attend Yale University, where she will study Computer Science under a dual-degree program that allows her to earn both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree within four years.

Her admission journey was remarkable. She received an early “likely letter” from Yale, confirming her acceptance even before the official Ivy Day.
She was also selected as a Yale Engineering & Science (YES) Scholar, an award given to fewer than 100 students out of over 50,000 applicants.
As a YES Scholar, Marry will have access to a guaranteed paid research opportunity at a Yale laboratory of her choice, along with exclusive mentorship and networking opportunities throughout her undergraduate years.
Adding to her list of achievements, Marry received the Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship, which provides $40,000 (about ₦63 million) toward her education and a guaranteed paid internship at Amazon as a Software Development Engineer Intern.
She is set to begin her internship after her freshman year at Yale. Reflecting on her journey, Marry described her college application experience as an “emotional rollercoaster” but said it was all worth it.
“As a first-generation college student with immigrant parents, I’m so grateful that all my hard work paid off. None of this would have been possible without my family, friends, and teachers who supported me,” she said.
