Young girl who was born in prison defies all odds as she graduates US high school, earns acceptance to Harvard University

A young girl named Aurora Sky Castne who was born in prison has defied all odds against her as she graduates with good grades from Conroe High School in the United States. She also earned acceptance to Harvard University.

Aurora from Texas, who was born while her mother was imprisoned, graduated as the third-highest-ranking student at Conroe High School, United States

Despite the challenging circumstances surrounding her birth, Aurora said her father took on the responsibility of raising her as a single parent, as her mother has not been involved in her life since her release from prison.

She was accepted by Harvard University to study for her bachelors degree. In her application essay to Harvard University, Aurora boldly started what her past was like with the statement“I was born in prison.”

It was the honest and powerful account of her background that resonated with the admissions committee, leading to her acceptance into the prestigious Ivy League University, Harvard through early action.

Aurora stated that during her childhood, she frequently changed residences with her father. She said when she was in elementary school, the staff recognized her potential but believed she would benefit from the guidance offered by CISD’s Project Mentor program.

It was through the community volunteers program with students that Mona Hamby became her mentor. Mona stated that it was aster Aurora spoke about her challenging childhood, that she realized that the teenager needed more than just academic support.



Mona said she recognized the importance of providing personal experiences for Aurora as well. From there, she assisted Aurora with selecting eyeglasses and getting her first professional haircut.

Additionally, local dentists, orthodontists, and community leaders contributed by helping Aurora with her dental care which enabled her to enjoy important childhood activities like attending summer camp.

“It was a very different environment than I grew up in, and that’s not a bad thing,” Castner said. “Everything that Mona taught me was very valuable in the same way that everything that I went through before Mona was very valuable,” Aurora said.

Aurora mentioned that she intends to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Law a Harvard University as she wishes to demonstrate her determination and ambition.
