AFRICA | 19-year-old boy bags bachelor’s degree at South African University sets record as school’s youngest graduate.
A 19-year-old boy named Bulelani Msawakhe Mazibuko has bagged a bachelor’s degree from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, setting a record as the youngest graduate in his set.
Bulelani obtained his bachelor’s degree in Philosophy, Politics, and Law at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. He was the youngest to graduate from the university’s College of Humanities in 2018.
“I am excited and humbled that this moment has finally arrived. After all the sweat and tears, it has finally happened. It’s really a moment to remember and cherish,” he said.

Bulelani said he pursued the degree because of his interest in serving society, giving back to his community, and being in a field where he can deal with day-to-day issues facing modern day society, particularly in South Africa.
He expressed gratitude to his family and friends for their support adding that his parents reminded him of the importance of prioritizing his tasks. Bulelan said though many of his friends were older than him, they served as his mentors.
‘I’ve had amazing support from my family and friends. My mom and dad would call, and they still do, every day to check up on me and remind me of the importance of prioritizing. Most of my friends are older than me. They are like my older brothers and I look up to them,’ he said.
Bulelani’s sister, Nonkululeko said she is proud of her brother for completing the degree at the stipulated time and for earning the achievement at his young age.”I feel so proud of my brother to have graduated in record time and being the youngest graduate,” Nonkululeko said.
”I hope his peers will be inspired by him. As a family, we thank him for working so hard, but above all, we thank God for guiding and protecting him all the way. We wish him all the best as he furthers his studies,’ she added.
Advising other students, Bulelani encourages them to have a clear purpose and ensure that all their actions contribute to achieving it. He said they should prioritize their tasks, believe in themselves, and work diligently.
Bulelani said he continuing his studies as he had enrolled for a bachelor of degree in Law (LL.B) at the same University of KwaZulu-Natal.
