AFRICA | A determined Nigerian Lady wins Masters scholarship to US with 2nd class lower degree, a fit thought to be achieveable by only first-class and 2nd class upper holders.
A determined Nigerian Lady named Imohkhefe Grace has fought her way to earn a fully funded scholarship to study for her masters degree in the United States.
Grace bagged her bachelor’s degree in Nutrition Science at the University of Ibadan with a second class lower grade (2:2) which affected her pursuit for a scholarship to study abroad.
She applied for different scholarships for a period of four years and was rejected at every attempt. Eventually she was awarded a fully funded scholarship to study for her masters at Georgia State University, an achievement shared by one of her mentor, Oludayo Sokunbi on twitter.
”Omokhefe Grace has been with me since 2020. She graduated from UI with a 2:2 in nutrition and that has affected her scholarship pursuit,” Oludayo said.

Oludayo mentioned that she earned the scholarship despite graduating with a low grade and not writing any standardized test required for admission into international countries such as the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE), Test of English as a Foreign Language, or any Interview.
He said it was Grace’s consistency for four years and hard work that helped her achieve success. Grace will be studying for a masters degree in Gerontology at Georgia State University.
‘Gerontology is the study of aging and older adults. The science of gerontology has evolved as longevity has improved. Researchers in this field are diverse and are trained in areas such as physiology, social science, psychology, public health, and policy.
Studying abroad via fully funded Masters or PhD scholarships has often been misconstrued to be available to only candidates with first-class and second-upper grades.
