AFRICA | Despite having some carryovers, young Nigerian Lady bags first-class in Food Science Technology.
A determined young Nigerian lady named Omotola Olasanmi has overcome significant setbacks to graduate with a first-class degree in Food Science and Technology from the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Nigeria.
She achieved an impressive cumulative grade point average of 4.59 out of 5.00. Sharing her remarkable journey on LinkedIn, Omotola reflected on the challenges she faced along the way.
Omotola said she grew up in an environment where the educational system was far from good which made her struggle academically. Due to this, she was often overlooked by peers and even family.

”When I started university, I carried the weight of my past struggles and began with a CGPA of 3.65—not the best start for someone with big dreams,” she recounted.
In her second year, she faced a major setback—a carryover in one of her major courses. This moment shook her confidence and left her questioning her abilities, dreams, and whether she was destined for success.
“It felt like the final blow to my confidence. I questioned everything—my abilities, my dreams, and whether I was even meant to succeed. I was on the verge of giving up. But deep down, I knew I couldn’t let my circumstances define me,” she said.
Determined to rise above her struggles, Omotola channeled her energy into late-night study sessions, extra tutorials, and an unwavering resolve to excel. She started a reading group that not only helped her but also supported her peers, fostering a spirit of collaboration and academic growth.
Fast forward to today, Omotola has transformed her challenges into triumphs, earning her first-class honors despite all odds
“This achievement is more than a degree. It’s a testament to resilience, perseverance, and the power of believing in yourself even when it feels like all hope is lost,” she said.
