AMERICA | A brilliant young boy named Edwin Ross II has bagged a scholarship worth 350,00 dollars after he graduates as the valedictorian of Santaluces High School in the United States
Edwin emerged as the valedictorian of his high school after scoring the highest grade point average in his class. Reflecting on his journey, Edwin stated that his success is like a “running joke” within the family because he has always tried to be like the two women who inspired him.
“I was excited to find out that I was valedictorian because it was a goal I’ve been working towards throughout high school. My sister graduated in 2013, and she was the valedictorian of her class. And my mom was the valedictorian of her class,” Edwin said.
“While my mom was more on the academic side, my dad was more on the athletic side. So any training that I needed, anything that I need to be a better basketball player and track runner, he always helped me with that,” he added.

Aside from graduating as the overall best student, he also bagged a $350,000 scholarship and took part in Dual Enrollment, Advanced Placement, and AICE courses while a student.
While in high school, he was the president of his junior and senior classes and also captain of the Chiefs’ boys basketball and track teams. Edwin was also a member of both the science and English honor societies.
Talking about how he balanced his studies with all of his activities, Edwin said he makes the most of available time and remains disciplined to achieve his goals. He also added that his teacher helped him make learning more exciting.
“I made sure I didn’t have too much downtime. I had an hour’s break between school and practice. I didn’t go home and take a nap though I often wanted to. I used that hour to do homework,” Edwin said.
“Mrs. Clifton was the one who helped me pick Howard,” he says. “She said, ‘I think you’d be a good fit for that school, so I went and took a tour, and I fell in love with it,” he added. Edwin said his determination was what helped him to achieve his goal of becoming the valedictorian.
“It’s the determination to keep working when things get hard. And it does get hard. Many times, I wanted to quit, to stop doing everything, because it gets overwhelming,” Edwin said.
”That’s the point where some people would say, ‘‘This is not for me.’ But I knew I wanted to become the valedictorian, like my sister. I stayed motivated,” he added. Edwin stated that he will be proceeding to Howard University, United States with plans to become a Lawyer.
